Learn more about John's platform for a stronger Deschutes County

Attainable, affordable housing

Central Oregon families shouldn’t have to leave town, or work three jobs, just to make ends meet. As a City Councilor and credit union branch manager, John has seen the human cost of a broken housing market. He believes we need to build more housing, but not just more of the same. On the County Commission, John will champion walkable, inclusive & intentional neighborhoods with a mix of housing options for all income levels. He’ll work to cut red tape, encourage responsible growth, and make sure we’re building toward a future where working families can put down roots and thrive.

A stronger economy for working families and local businesses

Economic opportunity for working families and local businesses

John knows that working families and local businesses are the backbone of Central Oregon's growing economy. As a credit union branch manager, he’s helped small businesses grow, families plan for the future, and neighbors navigate tough times. On the County Commission, John will focus on improving local infrastructure, supporting workforce development, and investing in the kinds of good-paying jobs that let people live and raise a family here. He’ll support local businesses and make sure Deschutes County is a place where working people can get ahead. It just makes good economic sense.

Wildfire prevention & emergency preparedness

As a former Army paratrooper and operations NCO, John knows that preparation saves lives. In the military, he planned for worst-case scenarios so others could come home safe. He brings that same mindset to public service. With the increasing toll of climate change and wildfire threats growing each year, John believes Deschutes County needs serious, coordinated investment in mitigation, forest health, and emergency response. On the County Commission, he’ll fight to ensure first responders are equipped, communities are prepared, and families have the information and resources they need to stay safe - because hope is not a plan.

Regional coordination & leadership in addressing homelessness

John believes addressing homelessness starts with recognizing the dignity and worth of every person. His approach is grounded in experience, from helping soldiers secure housing and support in the Army to working hands-on with individuals and families at his credit union, guiding them through some of life’s hardest moments. On Redmond City Council, John rejected the idea that homelessness was someone else’s problem or too big to fix. Instead, he rolled up his sleeves and worked across party lines to deliver real progress. Now, he’s ready to bring that same pragmatic, compassionate approach to make Deschutes County the regional leader our communities need in addressing and responding to the homelessness crisis.

Decency, collaboration, and restoring public trust in county government

John believes public service is about showing up, listening, and getting things done - without the drama. That’s how he’s led on the Redmond City Council, and it’s how he’ll lead on the County Commission. John has built coalitions across the political spectrum to tackle real problems, from housing to homelessness to economic development. He’s running to bring that same spirit of decency, collaboration, and accountability to the Deschutes County Commission.
